India Successfully Test Nuclear Capable Agni -IV missile on 06 June 2022. This test was carried from APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Orrisa.

A nuclear-capable Agni-IV ballistic missile, which can strike targets 4,000 km away, was successfully test-fired off the Odisha coast today, marking a significant boost to the country’s military capabilities. The test was a part of routine user training launches carried out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command, said the Defence Ministry.

“The successful test reaffirms India’s policy of having a credible minimum deterrence capability,” it said in a statement. The missile was test-fired off APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha at 7.30 pm this evening.

The government said the launch validated all operational parameters as also reliability of system.

Agni-IV is the fourth in the Agni series of missiles  – earlier known as Agni II prime – developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation or DRDO.

About the Missile System

The missile is 20 meter-long and weighs 17 tonnes. It is equipped with state-of-the-art Avionics, 5th generation onboard computer and distributed architecture. Agni IV can carry a warhead of 1 tonne. It is designed to increase the kill efficiency along with a higher range performance. It can be fired from a road mobile launcher. Efforts are being made to fine-tune the Agni missiles to defeat anti-ballistic missile systems. The radar cross-section and other detectable signatures of Agni-IV have been significantly reduced to make them much more immune to counter-measures. Moreover, the ballistic missile has the latest features to correct and guide itself for in-flight disturbances. It is capable of striking targets in nearly all of mainland China, if launched from northeastern part of India.
