BRICS Cooperation: Opportunities and Challenges

As a part of the World Peace Forum, panel discussion on BRICS Cooperation: Opportunities and Challenges” was held. India’s Ambassador to China, Pradeep Kumar Rawat attended the panel discussion. On the occasion, he highlighted that BRICS countries can greatly contribute to the world, together. According to him, India takes part in different international events because, India has the potential to make a greater contribution by actively cooperating with different countries.

Challenges faced by BRICS Countries

BRICS countries faces several challenges including,

  1. Uneven economic and social development
  2. Poverty
  3. Lack of access to education.

Opportunities for BRICS Countries

India takes part in other international organizations like ASEAN. It is a founding member of ASEAN summit. It was a part in establishment of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The country has also established mechanisms to slowdown the process of global climate change. BRICS grouping is a unique international organization. It accounts for 41% of the world’s population, 25% of world’s GDP and 16% of international trade. If BRICS countries can work for boosting their GDP and provide a better health care & education to in line with Sustainable Development Goals, then BRICS countries can make huge contribution in global prosperity and health.

New Development Bank

Another important contribution by BRICS countries is creation of “New Development Bank”. India actively supports the development in countries like Uruguay and Bangladesh, through the development bank.

10th World Peace Forum

It was started in Beijing on July 3, 2022. Over 300 former senior officials, scholars and diplomatic envoys are taking part in online or offline mode. It is being organised under the theme “”Preserving International Stability: Commonality, Comprehensiveness and Cooperation,”. The tenth edition of the forum comprises of topics including preservation of world peace, United Nations, European security order, and world order.
